Travel Laundry Essentials – Fresh, Clean Clothes Wherever You Go

Updated May 2026 by the Travel Gear team.

Packing light means wearing things more than once. That only works if you can wash them. This collection has everything you need to hand-wash and dry clothes on the road — from a $6.95 concentrated travel detergent that won't leak in your bag, to a $30.95 full laundry kit that covers wash, dry, and store.

We stock travel laundry gear from Sea to Summit, Korjo, and Travelwash — brands we carry as authorised Australian retailers. All ship from our Newcastle NSW warehouse.

What's in the Collection

  • Travel clotheslines (from $9.98) — the Korjo Clothesline with Pegs is elastic, needs no hooks, and fits in a pocket. Rigs up in a hotel bathroom or between trees at a campsite.
  • Liquid travel detergent (from $6.95)Sea to Summit Trek & Travel Laundry Wash is concentrated, biodegradable, and TSA carry-on compliant. A 100ml bottle does 30+ hand washes.
  • Mesh laundry bags (from $27.95) — the Sea to Summit Travelling Light Laundry Bag separates dirty clothes from clean in your pack and protects delicates in hotel washing machines.
  • Garment dryers ($15.95) — the Hangabout Garment Dryer hangs wet clothes from any rail or rod without pegs. Two per pack.
  • Full laundry kits ($30.95) — the Travelwash Laundry Kit includes detergent, a sink stopper, and a clothesline in one compact pouch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I hand-wash clothes in a hotel sink effectively?

Yes, with the right detergent. Concentrated travel wash like Sea to Summit Trek & Travel lathers well in cold water and rinses clean without residue. A sink stopper (included in the Travelwash kit) is the only other thing you need. Most synthetic fabrics dry overnight on a clothesline or towel rail.

Is travel laundry detergent allowed in carry-on luggage?

Yes. Liquid detergents in containers of 100ml or less are TSA and CASA compliant for carry-on. The Sea to Summit 100ml bottle is within limits for Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Jetstar.

What fabrics dry fastest when travelling?

Merino wool and synthetics (polyester, nylon) dry fastest — often overnight. Cotton takes significantly longer, especially in humid climates like Southeast Asia. Pack merino or synthetic where possible if you plan to wash and wear on the road.

Do I need a mesh laundry bag or will a plastic bag do?

A mesh bag does two things a plastic bag can't: it lets air circulate so dirty clothes don't get worse, and it protects delicates in hotel washing machines. If you're using hotel laundry services, a mesh bag also keeps your items together and identifiable.
