Cable Storage & Tech Organisers
Every traveller with more than one device ends up with the same problem: a bag full of tangled cables, missing adapters, and earphones that take five minutes to unknot. A cable organiser solves this with almost no weight or space penalty — a flat-lay organiser with elastic loops and zip pockets keeps every cable, adapter, and small tech item in a fixed place so you can find anything in seconds.
Travel Gear stocks cable storage and tech organisers for travel, shipping from our Charlestown NSW warehouse with fast delivery across Australia.
Types of Cable Organisers
Flat-Lay Cable Organisers
Open flat like a book, with elastic loops on one side for cables and zip pockets on the other for adapters, cards, and small items. The most practical option for frequent access — everything is visible at once and easy to grab. Typically 20–25cm x 15cm when closed, fitting in the top pocket of most travel backpacks. The most popular style for business and tech-heavy travellers.
Roll-Up Cable Organisers
Roll into a compact cylinder secured with a strap or snap. More compact than flat-lay organisers when rolled, but less convenient for frequent access — you need to unroll the whole thing to find one item. Better suited to travellers who pack their tech kit once and don't access it until they arrive.
Tech Pouches & Zip Cases
Larger zip cases for travellers carrying a full tech kit — power bank, multiple cables, adapters, earphones, a mouse, and a USB hub. Typically 25–30cm x 18cm, fitting in the main compartment of a carry-on backpack. Look for a semi-rigid shell that protects contents from compression in a packed bag.
Individual Cable Ties & Velcro Straps
The lightest solution — reusable velcro straps keep individual cables coiled without tangling. No organisation system, but adds almost no weight. Useful as a supplement to a cable organiser for longer cables that don't fit neatly in loops.
What to Pack in a Travel Cable Organiser
- USB-C charging cable (primary device cable — bring a spare)
- Lightning or Micro-USB cable if any devices still use these
- International travel adapter (see our travel adaptors range)
- Power bank charging cable
- Earphone or headphone cable
- SD cards and USB drives in a small zip pocket
- SIM card ejector tool
Frequently Asked Questions
What size cable organiser do I need?
For a phone, earphones, and 2–3 cables, a small flat-lay organiser (20cm x 12cm) is adequate. For a full tech kit with a power bank cable, multiple adapters, and a travel adapter, a medium organiser (25cm x 15cm) or a tech pouch is more practical. When in doubt, size up — a half-empty organiser is more useful than one you can't close.
Are cable organisers carry-on safe?
Yes — cable organisers with no built-in battery are carry-on safe with no restrictions. If your organiser includes a built-in power bank, the power bank must be under 100Wh and must be in carry-on luggage, not checked baggage.
How do I stop cables tangling in a bag?
The most effective method is a flat-lay organiser with individual elastic loops for each cable — cables stay coiled and separated. As a minimum, use reusable velcro straps to keep each cable coiled before putting it in a bag. Loose cables in a bag will always tangle regardless of how carefully you pack them.
