2degrees is New Zealand’s best value mobile network offering cheap calls and text messages as well as data on their prepaid pay as you go plans.

The 2degrees New Zealand SIM card:

  • comes with your New Zealand mobile phone number (which is printed on the SIM card package)
  • is pre-loaded with the $19 Carryover Combo, which gives you a bundle of calls and data (valued at NZD $19/month)
  • is ready to use on arrival in New Zealand (a quick call once you're on the 2degrees network will have your SIM card active within a couple of minutes)
  • is a multi-cut SIM card that will work in almost any unlocked phone that takes either a regular (mini), micro or nano size SIM card

Pre-loaded with the $19 Carryover Combo

This SIM card is pre-loaded with the $19 Carryover Combo so there is no need to load any credit before using it after arriving in New Zealand.

The 2degrees $19 Carryover Combo gives you:

  • Unlimited incoming calls
  • Unlimited calls to other 2degrees New Zealand mobile phones
  • 200 minutes of calls to standard landline and mobile phones in New Zealand and Australia
  • 1.25 GB data
  • Unlimited text messages to Australian and New Zealand mobile phones

This plan is valid for one month. You need to top up at least another NZD $19 to continue your service for an additional month. Unused call minutes and data will roll over to the following month.

The included value (200 call minutes and 1.25 GB data) is only for use when travelling in New Zealand. Your included minutes can be used to call voicemail at a rate of one minute per voicemail call.

If you use up your calls and data before your month has finished, you will be charged the following standard 2degrees prepay rates:

Call a New Zealand landline or mobile phone 44c per minute
SMS text message to New Zealand mobile 20c per message
International SMS text message 20c per message
MMS picture message (to New Zealand and international mobile) 50c per message
Access voicemail 20c per call

FAQ

Will the SIM card work in my mobile phone?

The 2degrees New Zealand pay as you go SIM card will work in any unlocked GSM mobile phone that operates at the 900Mhz band. This includes virtually all dual-band mobile phones from Europe and the UK.

How do I know if my phone is locked?

Before you travel put any SIM that’s not from your regular mobile network into your phone and turn it on. If your phone shows a network name it is unlocked, if it says something like “Network locked” or “SIM locked” then your phone is locked into your home network.

How can I unlock my phone?

If you’re still in the UK it is relatively easy to unlock your phone. If you are on a contract you can simply call up your regular mobile network’s customer service and ask them to unlock your phone. This will usually involve them giving you a code, which you enter into your phone to unlock it and make it compatible with SIM cards from all networks. Many networks will do this free of charge if you are a good customer, but some networks may charge you for this service. Alternatively you can go to a small independent mobile phone shop and pay them around £10 to get your phone unlocked (larger mobile phone shops may not offer this service but most small independent shops will).

If you are in New Zealand you can also try making an international call to your home mobile company to get an unlocking code, but occasionally you need to be calling from within that network’s coverage area (depending on your mobile network at home).

Is there a charge to recieve calls?

There is no charge to receive a call on any New Zealand mobile network. That means that you are never charged whenever anyone calls you in New Zealand as long as you have a New Zealand SIM card (such as the 2degrees SIM) in your mobile phone.

How long is my credit valid for?

Credit on your 2degrees pay as you go New Zealand SIM card is good for 365 days.

How much credit does my SIM card come with?

The 2degrees New Zealand pay as you go SIM card comes with the $19 Carryover combo preloaded. You will see that the credit balance is zero, but the package will be active and you will be able to make calls and use data straight away. If you need to add more credit, you can do this from newsagents and convenience stores.

What currency are the above prices quoted in?

Please note that the above call charges are quoted in New Zealand dollars.
