If you're planning on visiting Turkey you may have heard stories about the hassle of buying a local SIM card there. The bureaucratic activation process involves showing your passport at a mobile phone shop, filling out paperwork and then your SIM card can only be used in the phone that you bought it for. International calls
This SIM card is cheapest when using it to make calls in and between Germany and Turkey. Calls to most other European countries cost €0.28/minute and calls to most countries outside Europe (including Australia and New Zealand) cost €1.29/minute.
There are many apps that you can install on your phone that give you much cheaper international calls. These apps include Rebtel, Skype and Viber. In most cases Rebtel is the best option as it works on all phones (including old phones where you cannot install apps) and it works well, even on a slow internet connection. InternetFLAT + 150 SMS
The InternetFLAT + 150 SMS add-on feature costs €10/month and gives you 500MB data (to use when you are in Germany) plus 150 SMS text messages to phones in both Germany and Turkey.
