The SIM card comes with 2GB of data for use within seven days. You can use tethering (personal hotspot), VOIP services (such as Facetime, Skype or Viber), and even Facebook is available with this SIM card (unlike most Chinese SIM cards).
You cannot use this as a voice SIM, but can make calls and SMS using data – eg over Facetime, Skype, Rebtel, Viber etc.
Includes coverage across mainland China as well as Hong Kong
With this SIM card there is no need to buy separate SIM cards for Hong Kong and mainland China.
This service is provided by China Unicom Hong Kong for the Hong Kong market, which means that data services available to Hong Kong residents travelling in mainland China are also available to you. This generally means that access to social media sites such as Facebook available to you whereas access to these sites would be blocked if using a data SIM purchased in mainland China.
Internet access in mainland China is censored by the Chinese government. The "Great Firewall of China" blocks access to many popular apps and websites including Facebook, Google and Instagram. You can find a list of the main sites that are blocked here.
The Great Firewall of China does not apply to Hong Kong residents, even when they are travelling in mainland China (with a Hong Kong SIM card). Because this is a Hong Kong SIM card, you are able to access the internet in China without the restrictions imposed by the Chinese government.
With this SIM card you have access to all apps and websites including Dropbox, Facebook, Google, Instagram and YouTube, that would otherwise be blocked if you had a SIM card purchased in mainland China.
