3 UK SIM card for the United Kingdom and Europe

he Three UK SIM card is a great value option for use in the United Kingdom and it also offers great value roaming throughout most European countries (and some countries outside Europe as well). This is an excellent option if you need to access lots of data when you're on the road and will mostly be making local calls or calls to numbers in the UK.

Your SIM card is ready to use as soon as you arrive in the United Kingdom. You don't need to register it nor add any credit. It is pre-loaded with a call and data package and ready to go.

This SIM card comes as a tri-cut SIM that fits all phones, whether your phone requires a standard (credit card size), mini (regular), micro or nano size SIM card. At a minimum your phone must support 3G data and data speeds will be even faster if it also supports 4G LTE data. Phones that only support the 2G GSM data speed will not work on the Three network.

Pre-loaded with the All in One 20 add-on package

This SIM card is pre-loaded with the All in One 20 add-on which becomes active as soon as your phone picks up the Three network after arriving in the United Kingdom.

The All in One 20 add-on package is valid for 30 days from the date that you first start using the SIM card after arriving in the UK. It will cost £20 for each additional 30-day period. If you want to use it beyond your first month you will need to top up enough credit to cover the £20 monthly charge.

The All in One 20 add-on does not include calls to premium numbers and does not include calls to numbers outside the UK (including local calls when travelling in the above countries where free roaming is available). You will need to top up additional credit if you want to call

Using the Three UK SIM card in the United Kingdom

Your Three UK SIM card is pre-loaded with the All in One 20 add-on package which gives you a bundle of calls and data to use anywhere on the Three network in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Discounted international calls from the UK

There are 25 countries (including Australia) that Three offer cheaper international call rates. However to obtain these cheaper international calls you must dial a prefix before the number, so rather than dialling +61 before an Australian number you would need to dial 4050061 before the number if calling an Australian landline phone or 4040061 before the number if calling an Australian mobile phone.

If you need to call a country that discounted international calls are not available to, we recommend using an app such as Localphone, Rebtel, Skype or Viber for these calls.

Please note: you will need to top up additional credit to make an international call.

International text messages from the UK

International text messages cost 25.2p/message for a standard SMS text message and 17.4p/message for an MMS picture message. Messages being sent between two iPhones will usually be free as they are sent using Apple's iMessage service (as long as both parties have internet access).

We recommend using an app such as Telegram or WhatsApp for international text and picture messages, this is much cheaper than a standard message and is usually a more reliable option as well.

UK coverage

The Three UK network provides 3G coverage to 97% of the United Kingdom's population and most cities and larger towns also have fast 4G data coverage as well. You can check your coverage online here.

Free Wi-Fi on the London Underground

The Three SIM also entitles you to free Wi-Fi access at over 130 London Underground stations, however you do need to register a free My3 account online before you can access this service.

Roaming with the Three UK SIM card

Three UK offers some of the best roaming deals going with over 40 countries where you can use your call and data allowance just you like would in the UK. These Feel At Home destinations include all the European Union as well as a handful of non-EU countries including Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore and the United States of America.

When travelling in any of the above countries you can use the following inclusive calls and data from your All in One 20 add-on package. Please note that this package only includes calls to UK numbers so you will need to top up additional credit to make other calls including local calls in the country that you are travelling in. Local calls are fairly cheap (3.9p/minute in the European Union and 3.3p/minute in European countries outside the EU) when travelling in most other European countries, however they are expensive (£1.40/minute) when travelling outside Europe. You can use up to your 12GB data allowance when travelling outside the United Kingdom.

This SIM card is intended for UK residents to use while making short trips abroad and Three's terms and conditions state that you cannot use this SIM card continuously outside the United Kingdom for longer than two months per year.

Topping up your credit

You can buy top-up vouchers from over 100,000 shops in the UK including convenience stores, supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations and post offices. This is the easiest and cheapest way to top up your credit.

You cannot top up credit on the Three website or by calling Three customer support unless you have a UK credit card (a credit card in British pounds issued by a UK bank with a UK billing address). However non UK credit cards (and PayPal) work fine when topping up online at mobiletopup.co.uk or tapupmobile.com.

If you plan on using this SIM card outside the UK, it is best that you buy a top up voucher at a retail shop prior to leaving the United Kingdom.
