A retractable phone tether (also called a retractable phone lanyard or phone leash) is a spring-loaded reel that attaches to your bag or belt and keeps your phone connected by a cord. This one is for travellers, hikers and commuters who want their phone within reach without holding it. The carabiner and the phone tab come in the box, so it works with any phone in a case, including iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel. The cord extends to 60cm so you can use your phone normally, then retracts it back to your bag or belt. The reinforced wire cord helps deter snatch-and-grab theft and guards against accidental drops, whether you are in a crowded market, on a trail or on a packed train.
The carabiner on the webbing strap hooks onto a belt loop, backpack strap or bag D-ring. The phone tab slides between your phone and its case, and the swivel clip on the cord connects to the tab.
Key Features
- Carabiner and phone tab included — everything you need to attach it to a bag and a phone in a case
- 60cm extended cord — enough reach to use your phone at chest height while it stays attached to your bag or belt
- Reinforced wire cord — designed to resist snapping under sudden tension or the weight of a heavy smartphone
- Spring-loaded auto-retract — extends for use, then recoils to keep the tether compact and out of the way
- ABS plastic housing, 42g — a light, hard-wearing reel case for daily travel and outdoor use
- Webbing strap with carabiner — hooks onto belt loops, backpack straps or bag D-rings
- Multi-use — also suits keys, ID badges and access cards

Best For
- Travel and busy tourist areas where pickpocketing is a risk
- Hiking and trail walks where a dropped phone is costly
- Commuters on trains and buses
- Work sites, fishing and boating
Not Ideal For
- Phones used without a case, because the tab is held in place by the case
- Climbing or any load-bearing use. The carabiner is for attaching your phone to a bag or belt, not for supporting body weight or gear

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the cord, and how much does it weigh?
The cord extends to 60cm and retracts to a compact reel of about 20cm. The tether weighs 42g.
What comes in the box?
The retractable tether with its webbing strap and carabiner, plus a phone tab. The 2 x option includes two of each. You supply the phone case.
Does it work as an iPhone lanyard or with Android phones?
Yes. It works with any phone used in a case, including iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel, so brand and screen size do not matter. It does not attach to a bare phone because the tab needs the case to hold it.
How do you hook a lanyard to your phone?
Many phone lanyards use a flat tab that sits between the phone and its case. This tether works that way: slide the included phone tab between your phone and case, close the case over it, then connect the swivel clip on the cord to the tab. Check the connection is secure before you rely on it.
What is a phone strap called?
Phone straps go by several names: phone lanyard, phone tether, phone leash, phone reel, wrist strap and crossbody strap. A retractable phone tether is the reel-style version, with a spring-loaded cord that extends and retracts.
How strong is the retractable cord?
The cord is reinforced wire designed to resist snapping under sudden force or the weight of a heavy smartphone. It is built for travel and outdoor use rather than as a decorative lanyard.
Can I use this phone tether for keys or an ID badge?
Yes. The reel suits keys, access cards, ID badges or small tools, anything you want within reach without fully detaching from your bag or belt.
How does the tether attach to my bag or clothing?
The carabiner on the webbing strap hooks onto a belt loop, backpack strap, vest loop or bag D-ring.
Is this phone lanyard suitable for hiking?
It is designed for outdoor use. The ABS housing and reinforced wire cord suit trail days where you want your phone accessible but tethered.
